| Aircraft Most flying schools use Cessna 172 aircraft from the late Sixties and early Seventies. While these aircraft are excellent trainers, they are getting long in the tooth and they carry a lot of excess weight that is not necessary for training. At SFT, we use new-technology aircraft to provide superb flight training at affordable rates. These aircraft use modern engines in high-technology airframes, resulting in around half the fuel consumption at very similar airspeeds and performance. Our oldest aircraft is a 1999 model. The school's aircraft are professionally maintained on site. There are two models in our basic training fleet: Our Simulator is approved by the CAA to complement basic and advanced training at affordable rates. It simulates a number of light aircraft, with a radio stack featuring realistic controls and displays. We can simulate conditions around almost any airport on earth, providing ideal facilities for solid instrument training. Economic factors dictate the use of low-cost aircraft for basic training, but we do not aim to teach you to fly only ultralight aircraft. Instead, from the beginning we teach you the thinking and the skills required to operate any of a wide variety of aircraft. Our instructors have exposed themselves to private, airline, General Aviation charter, military and helicopter operations to ensure that we understand how you will eventually end up flying. We emphasise both stick-and-rudder skills and procedures to ensure that your further progress is as painless as possible, whether your interest is in operating a private aircraft or handling the big jets. We even have helicopter-qualified instructors who can ease your transition into that category of aircraft. We have gone to great lengths to ensure that you will not have to un-learn anything, as we have trained people from scratch right up to medium jets. We also have several other training aircraft available for advanced training. These aircraft include Cessna Caravans, a Beech King Air and a number of jet trainers. We do initial and recurrent training for a charter company operating a fleet of medium jets (Hawker HS125s and a Gulfstream II). Some of the advanced training takes place from nearby airports such as Wonderboom, Grand Central and Lanseria. If you operate a jet or turboprop aircraft, talk to us about ongoing training for your pilots, including licence revalidations. |
